Demand for Strong Action Against Culprits Who Assaulted Journalist in Siwan, Bihar

New Delhi, February 13, 2026: The National Union of Journalists (India) NUJ(I) has demanded strict and immediate action against the culprits involved in the shooting of journalist Ramesh Singh in Siwan. Bihar.

According to available information, on February 12, 2026, journalist Ramesh Singh was seriously injured after being shot in the abdomen by unidentified miscreants late Thursday night in Pachrukhi block of Siwan district. He was attacked by bike-borne criminals while returning from a wedding. He is currently admitted to the hospital, where his condition remains critical.

 

Ras Bihari, President of the National Union of Journalists (India), strongly condemned the attack on the journalist and expressed deep concern over the growing incidents of violence against media persons in Bihar. He stated that there is widespread resentment among the media fraternity in the state over repeated attacks on journalists. In a statement, he urged Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to order an immediate judicial inquiry into the incident. He also demanded adequate compensation for the injured journalist and measures to ensure the safety and security of media professionals working in the state.

 

He further emphasized NUJ(I)’s long-standing demand for the enactment of a Journalist Protection Law to ensure accountability in cases of attacks on journalists. The Union strongly condemned the barbaric attack on the media and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
