NUJ Secretary General Prasanna Mohanty, former president Prajnananda Choudhuri nominated as PCI members

New Delhi, Oct. 7: Mr Prasanna Mohanty, Secretary General of National Union of Journalists (India) and former President of NUJ (I) Prajnananda Choudhuri, have been nominated as esteemed members of Press Council of India (PCI).

Mr Mohanty and Mr Choudhuri’s names were published in the Gazette notification on October 6, 2021.

Congratulatory messages poured in for Mr Mohanty and Mr Choudhuri’s from all sections of the society following their nominations to the prestigious positions.

Mr Prasanna Mohanty is a senior journalist of Odisha. A noted political commentator, he is at present working as the Special Correspondent with leading English newspaper Indus Valley Times.

Mr Mohanty is also currently President of Odisha Union of Journalists.

Similarly, Mr Choudhuri who was earlier a PCI member for one term is associated with Anand Bazar Patrika, a renowned Bengali daily. He is also President of Bengal Union of Journalists.

The Press Council is a mechanism for the Press to regulate itself. Nominated for three years, the PCI serves as a grievance redressal mechanism for people working with print media. It also works towards ensuring press freedom in the country.

After a long gap, two members of NUJ (I)  have made it to the PCI as its esteemed members.

NUJ (I) President Ras Bihari, national treasurers Dr Aravind Singh, Vice President Rajat Kumar Gupta, Seema Kiran, Pradeep Tiwari, Bhupen Goswami, Sayed Junaid, P Raju, Ram Chandra Kanoujia, national secretary Seema Mohan, Sheetal Kardekar, Pankaj Soni, Kamalakant Upamanyu, Dipak Ray, K Kandaswami and Prashant Chakraborty have congratulated both Mr Mohanty and Mr Choudhuri.

 Mr Rakesh Thapilia, President of Delhi Journalists (DJA), and DJA general secretary K P Mallick have said that representation of Mr Mohanty and Choudhuri will boost the fight for protection of various rights and fulfillment of entitlements of journalists.
