National Convention of NUJ-I on September 11

•      Discussion will be done through video conference in more than hundred cities

•      Demand for financial assistance to unemployed journalists

 

New Delhi, August 24,2020. More than two thousand journalists is goint to participate in the National convention of the National Union of Journalists-India, affiliated to the International Federations of Journalists, held on 11 September 2020. The foremost concern of the media world will be considered in the meeting. The one-day meeting of the National Executive of NUJ-I on Sunday demanded financial assistance from the central and state governments to journalists drawn from newspapers and channels in the Corona pandamic era. It was informed at the meeting that starvation situation has begun in front of a large number of journalists. Journalists have also had to commit suicide due to poor financial condition.

 

Under the leadership of  NUJ-I President, Rasbihari and General Secretary Prasanna Mohanty, a video conference was conducted where Syed Junaid (Srinagar), Secretaries Kamalkant Upamanyu (Mathura), Pankaj Soni (Jaipur), Kandaswamy (Chennai), Prashant Chakraborty (Agartala) participated. It was decided at the conference that journalists will participate in all the state capitals through video conferences in main cities.

 

Former NUJ President Pragyanand Chaudhary, Former General Secretary Shiv Kumar Agarwal, Delhi Journalists Association President- Rakesh Thapliyal, General Secretary- KP Malik, Treasurer -Naresh Gupta, UP Journalists Association -President Ratan Dixit, General Secretary -Ashok Agnihotri, Former Treasurer- Anil Agarwal, Uttarakhand Unit President- BD Sharma, Jammu &Kashmir Journalists Union President- Syed Junaid, General Secretary -Syed Bukhari, Himachal Pradesh Union of Journalists President -Ranesh Rana, Haryana Media Union convenor Balram Sharma, Cooperator- Vipul Kaushik, NUJ Maharashtra President -Sheetal Kardekar, Journalists Association of Madhya Pradesh President -Khilavan Chandrakar, Journalists Association of Rajasthan -President Rakesh Sharma, Jharkhand Union Journalists President- Rajat Kumar Gupta, Executive Chairman- Rajeev Nayanam, West Bengal Union of Journalists -General Secretary Deepak Rai, NUJ Tamil Nadu- President Muruganandan, General Secretary -Krishnaveni, Journalists Association of Andhra Pradesh- president Punyam Raju, general secretary -Yugandhar Reddy, Telangana Media Union president -A. Surya Rakash Rao and other state officials gave information about holding national conventions in various cities.

 

NUJ (I) President- Rasbihari said that in the conference, the problems of journalists who were detained and laid off during the Corona era will be discussed in detail. At the same time, the demand for enactment of the Journalist Protection Law, the formation of Media Council, and the Media Commission will be strongly raised. NUJ (I)  president also raised his voice against arrests of journalists on the base of fake cases. It was decided in the meeting that the Central Government will be sought after to provide assistance to the financially weak newspapers.
