NUJ (I) expresses serious concern over attack on its national secretary’s house at Agartala
The journalists’ body demands immediate setup high level judicial inquiry.
New Delhi July 06, 2020 - In a shocking incident, more than 100 goons attacked the house of senior journalist Prasantha Charkavarti, also the General Secretary of Tripura Union of Working Journalists and destroyed the entire house. Prasantha Charkavarti was not present at house; the culprits beat his brother and sister and left in a shaky condition. The General Secretary of Tripura Union of Working Journalists accused the BJP government of the state.
The National Union of Journalists (India) expresses serious concern over attack on its national secretary’s house at Agartala. NUJ President Ras Bihari and Vice President Bhupen Goswami (East Zone) condemned the attack saying that the attack shows that everything is not going well in Tripura and the state government wants to suppress the voice of the media and demands immediate high level judicial inquiry and action.
The Prsedient said that the NUJ demands that high level judicial inquiry must be setup to give justice to scribe and appropriate compensation from the state government. NUJIndia will also complain about this whole episode to the Prime Minister, Home Minister and Governor. They demanded from Union Government and state Government of Tripura to ensure the safety of scribes.
