New Delhi, March 27, 2016: The National Union of Journalists (India) strongly condemned a statement issued by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority Islamabad (PEMRA) regarding the recent terror attack in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi. The release clearly stated the Pakistani media should follow the criteria of reporting of Brussels terror attacks covered by the International media. In PEMRA statement there are some unacceptable comments about Indian Media and which we consider as a interference in our affairs and there is no need for Pakistan to tell us how to do our professional work.
“We are surprised to read this statement by PEMRA as they have no authority to blame and question the responsibility of Indian Media. We want to clear it that Indian Media knows its responsibility very well and very much sensitive about reporting such incidents anywhere in the world. The Indian Media had a glorious past of ethical, professional and responsive journalism and that is why we consider it the fourth pillar of world’s largest democracy” Ras Bihari NUJ (India) President said in a statement.
We request PEMRA not to compare Indian Media with Pakistani Media and reissue its guidelines by omitting the Indian context said NUJ(I) Secretary General Ratan Dixit said.
