Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya Addresses NUJ(I) National Executive Committee Meeting in Agra
Agra, June 7, 2026:
The National Executive Committee Meeting of the National Union of Journalists (India) [NUJ(I)], one of India’s leading journalist organizations and a member of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), Brussels, Belgium, was successfully held on June 6–7, 2026, at the Khandari Campus of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra.
The meeting was chaired by NUJ(I) National President Ras Bihari and attended by members of the National Executive Committee, State Presidents, General Secretaries, and senior journalist representatives from different parts of the country.
A major highlight of the meeting was the address by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who attended the event as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, Shri Maurya spoke about the importance of taking the welfare schemes and development initiatives of the Government of India to every village, town, and city across the country. He emphasized that citizens should be fully aware of the benefits available to them through various public welfare programs introduced under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that journalists play a crucial role in connecting the government with the people by providing accurate and timely information. He noted that media professionals have a responsibility to ensure that information about development activities and welfare schemes reaches every section of society.
Speaking on economic development, Shri Maurya stated that India requires a “Double Engine Government” for faster growth and effective governance. He explained that when the same political leadership works at both the Centre and the State, development projects can be implemented more efficiently, resulting in better infrastructure, stronger economic growth, increased investment, employment generation, and improved public services. According to him, coordinated efforts between the Central and State Governments help accelerate progress and strengthen the nation’s economy.
The Deputy Chief Minister also spoke about the changing media environment and the growing influence of digital platforms. He observed that the rapid expansion of social media and YouTube channels has created a new and challenging environment for journalism. While digital platforms have provided wider access to information and increased public participation, they have also raised concerns regarding misinformation, unverified content, and the need for responsible communication.
He stressed that professional journalists must continue to uphold the principles of accuracy, credibility, fairness, and ethical reporting. He said that in an era of instant information, the role of responsible journalism has become more important than ever before.
Shri Maurya congratulated the National Union of Journalists (India) for its significant contribution to the nation and the media fraternity over the past fifty years. He praised the organization for its continuous efforts to protect journalists’ rights, strengthen press freedom, and support professional journalism across the country. He acknowledged the important role played by NUJ(I) in raising issues related to journalists’ welfare and promoting ethical standards in the profession.
During the two-day meeting, delegates discussed several important issues concerning the future of journalism and the challenges facing media professionals. The discussions focused on strengthening the organization, protecting press freedom, ensuring the safety and welfare of journalists, expanding membership, and addressing challenges emerging from digital and social media platforms.
NUJ(I) Secretary General Pradeep Tiwari welcomed the delegates and presented the agenda for the meeting. Several organizational matters, welfare initiatives, membership development programs, and future action plans were discussed in detail.
The Executive Committee reaffirmed its commitment to defending freedom of the press, promoting ethical journalism, safeguarding the professional interests of journalists, and working for the welfare of media persons across India. The meeting also resolved to intensify efforts to address emerging challenges confronting journalists in the digital age.
The successful organization of the Agra meeting was coordinated by Pramod Goswami, K. P. Singh, and Dilip Surana, who ensured smooth arrangements for delegates and the successful conduct of all sessions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, NUJ(I) expressed its gratitude to all delegates, state units, organizers, and distinguished guests for their active participation and contribution to the success of the National Executive Committee Meeting.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment to strengthening journalism, protecting democratic values, and promoting responsible and ethical media practices in India.
