NUJI and DJA expressed anger against the murder of the journalist, will organize mass demonstration

New Delhi: The National Union of Journalists (India) and the Delhi Journalists' Association have expressed outrage over the kidnapping and burning of 24-year-old journalist Avinash Jha in Madhubani, Bihar.

Both organizations said, that attacks on journalists are increasing continuously in Bihar. Four months back also a journalist was burnt to death in Siwan.

Mass demonstrations will be held in Bihar against attacks on journalists.

Rash Bihari, President of NUJI, affiliated to International Federation of Journalists, Rakesh Thapliyal, President of Delhi Journalists Association and General Secretary, KP Malik have said that the way the journalist was brutally killed for exposing the reality of fake hospitals and nursing homes in Bihar. The truth of the administration of Nitish Kumar government of the state has come to the fore.

Both organizations said that on one hand, preparations are being done in the country to celebrate Press Day on November 16 and on the other hand, journalists are protesting from place to place against the killings, arrests and all restrictions.

NUJI President Rash Bihari has said that there are constant attacks on journalists in Bihar. He has demanded to the Bihar government to give proper compensation to the family members of journalist Avinash Jha.

DJA President Rakesh Thapliyal and General Secretary KP Malik have said that soon there will be a massive demonstration in Delhi against the attacks on journalists.

Ras Bihari also said that NUJI stands in solidarity with Samriddhi K. Sakunia and Swarna Jha, the two women journalists who have been  harassed, intimidated and detained for doing their job by Tripura  and Assam Police. “NUJI demands that the police should immediately release them and allow them to do their job without fear”. Said Ras Bihari.

Ms Sakunia and Ms Jha, who work with HW News Network, were on assignment in Tripura to cover the recent incidents of violence when an FIR was registered against them for allegedly maligning the ‘image of Tripura government’. And then there were reports that they were not allowed to leave the hotel, and on the request of the Tripura Police, were later detained in Assam.
