New Delhi (January 27, 2015): The National Union of Journalists (India) NUJ(I) is deeply saddened by the demise of eminent cartoonist R K Laxman. He was 94. Born in Mysore on October 24, 1921 was a veteran Indian cartoonist.

Laxman was associated with Free Press Journal in the 1950s and other journals. Brother of novelist the late R K Narayan. Laxman is survived by wife Kamala and son Srinivas, retired journalist.

In a statement, NUJ President Uppala Lakshman and Secretary General Prasanna Mohanty expressed their grief over the sad demise of R K Laxman.

Chairman Journalists Welfare Foundation Dr N K Trikha said, Laxman ji touched the lives of the common people in many ways. NUJ condolences to the family.

NUJ(I) School of Journalism Chairman Rajender Prabhu said that Society will miss intellectual cartoonist who made the pocket cartoon of the common man.
